Thank you for your nice comments about missing me yesterday.

The final math test on Area/Perimeter of circles is on Friday. It's really important for you to be at school on Friday because we will be making the final arrangements for Claymation. The people from Claymation will be in on Monday and it will be a full day of filming.
Two people will be presenting their Booktalks on Friday also. The rest of you will be presenting on Tuesday or Thursday. I won't be at school on Wednesday as I will be at a workshop at U of T.
Remember to bring in your $5 gift for the gift exchange. Next Friday will be a fun day! You can bring in treats if you like.
See you tomorrow

I missed you all today

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

I'm not going to be at school tomorrow. I'm working at U of T on an exciting unit involving new technology. I hope to be able to share this unit with you in the spring. I'm really hoping that you'll be on your best behaviour for the supply teacher. There are math review sheets being handed out and the test will likely be on Friday. Make sure to bring in food for the food drive. The booktalk presentations will start on Thursday. You have to be at school on Thursday morning by 8:45am at the latest. I'll meet you at the front doors. We'll be leaving for our tour of Marc Garneau by 8:55am. We won't be able to wait for latecomers...sorry. Please relay this message to your classmates incase they don't read my blog. Look forward to seeing all of you on Thursday.

Homework:

Complete Booktalk for Tuesday.
Complete 2 math worksheets. If you are having difficulty with the math, try to do the chapter review test on page 173. The answers are in the back of the book. You can bring any questions you don't understand to school on Tuesday and I will go over them.
Most students will be absent on Monday for EID. We will not be learning anything new but for the students who will attend, it will be a review day.
The final math test on Area and Perimeter will be on Wednesday or Thursday. This depends on the number of students still absent on Tuesday for EID.
Claymation is coming up on December 15th. We will be working on the storyline and clay figures on Wednesday.
Have a wonderful long weekend. Happy EID.
And to those of you who will be writing the TOPS exam...good luck and remember...it's not a race. GO OVER YOUR WORK AND OVER YOUR WORK AND OVER YOUR WORK, then hand it in.

Parents and Students:

If I don't receive an assignment on time, I inform parents with an action plan. An action plan is a letter sent home to be signed by parents acknowledging that either homework or an assignment was not completed. If an assignment is still not handed in, I send another letter home to let parents know. However, I will always take in late assignments and mark them. My goal is to get parents on board to remind students of what is expected of them. Students: the moral here is NEVER GIVE UP...you may be late in doing the work but the work must get done.
For Terry Fox day: please dress for cold weather tomorrow!

Monday, October 20, 2008

And another thing...

Parents, do not be concerned about the list I put out on the weekend regarding who had not completed Geography or postcard assignments. I did receive some assignments on Friday that I failed to put in my bag to mark.

You only need to be concerned if you received a letter today regarding unfinished work.

Students who received a letter to be signed by a parent, must have them back by tomorrow.

DID YOU FIGURE OUT THE PATTERN FROM THE PAPERS ON THE BOARD OR DO YOU KNOW WHY I HAVE SPECIAL POWERS? (I'll tell you tomorrow)

Web 2.0

We had curriculum night last Tuesday and I was asked to speak to the parent body about the History and Geography curriculum. I talked about the new technology that we have at our school and how we incorporate it into our History/Geography program. It really sounded like I was talking another language and I could tell many of the other teachers were wondering what I was talking about. Blogging? Podcasting?
Last year one of the Grade 8 teachers had his students Podcasting. They took a chapter in the text and summarized it. They had to Podcast the information as one of the historical characters of the time. This was the teachers first attempt at Podcasting so he kept it simple. He was able to use the assignment as an assessment tool for History, Drama and Oral Language.
I plan to share my Blog with my students on Tuesday. This way I will be completely familiar with it by then. Homework and assignments will be posted daily. How wonderful will that be for students who are absent! No more excuses.

This is my first attempt at bloggin but I sure am glad that I started
